For this feature, I decided to revisit Sketch #65. It's a great clean sketch which enables you to highlight (and keep the focus on) that single fabulous photo while allowing you to mix a variety of patterned papers and embellishments.

One of the things that I like to do to create a layout with a more whimsical feel is to simply tilt my photo(s) and/or patterned paper strips, or even layer the strips of patterned paper in varying sizes. This works really well especially when you have a background paper that is heavily patterned, such as in this layout, and you don't want to cover it up! The use of tiny alphas moving downward in the titlework also adds to the playful feel (and allows me to get in a longer title! :))

I also enjoy adding texture and dimensionality to my layouts by layering embellishments and using pop dots to bring certain elements forward. On this layout, I also chose to bring the color red in minimal amounts to provide a splash of color to the existing color palette of browns, grays, and blues – also by doing so, it gives the layout a more holiday feel for what is not necessarily a traditional Christmas photo.

Today, Virginia shows you her interpretation of Sketch 104.  Notice that she flipped the sketch and used circles instead of the blocks.  Looks fab!

Virginia's Tips:  Christmas is a whirlwind at our house; it is a time filled with laughter and joy. In this layout, I wanted to augment these adorable photos of my nieces with the various Christmas themed papers and patterns. To add texture and dimension, I raised the photos and some of the pattern paper circles. As well, I "decorated" the die cut sticker trees.

Sketch 104

It's about time for a new sketch, right? I know, I know. Sometimes I just keep you guys waiting long for a new one. ;P

Today is the last official class day of the Got Sketch | Ultimate School Album -- an ideal day for a new sketch post. Those 5 weeks of class flew by! The classroom remains open until November 30. So there is still plenty of time for anyone to sign up and grab the class content in its entirety.
